Robot Missions is developing 3D printed robots to collect plastic pollution from beaches. We have gone through several iterations, and in 2018 we demonstrated the robot was able to use AI to detect garbage and collect it, and do autonomous navigation. Our next version will improve the functionality to be more reliable. My role in the company is the technical founder and CEO. Our team is now 4 volunteers strong. We wouldn’t have gotten to where we are now without the support of our backers on Kickstarter, DonorBox, Patreon, the Westboro Beach community, and the companies and organizations who have sponsored our initiative.
Highlights include: Testing robots at the Canadian Space Agency, a demonstration to the Prime Minister of Canada Justin Trudeau, collaborating with prototypeD Team to bring the Catalyst Pod activation on Westboro Beach (Ottawa), receiving funding from Ontario Centres of Excellence, sponsorship with Amazon Web Services, technological achievements in making the integration of many systems work. The idea started through the Studio Y program at MaRS. I’ve brought it from idea, all the way to having multiple robots replicated. And there’s still more to come!
